BCTF FSA Job Action

BCTF FSA Job Action

By canadiandy on October 28, 2008 - 8:45am

I am really worried about the job action the BCTF are pushing over the FSA. I have been told even the AGM delegates barely supported it (52-48). And these are the union activists. The majority of teachers I have talked to are opposed to it ("This is not a hill to die on").

So most teachers don't support it, but after the Executive World Tour goes around twisting arms and threatening what will happen without a 90% vote, it just might pass (the illusion of democracy, eh).

Plus, when parents see this one they are going to be pretty ticked. Class size issues they get, working conditions and even salary they get, but going on strike because you don't like the once a year hour long test kids get in only grades 4 and 7? This one won't fly.

The only ones that will win over this issue are the Liberals. In the last 4 years they've given teachers a 15% salary increase, and returned class size language into contracts. Now teachers will be making a political statement with the kids as pawns and the BCTF will lose all credibility, then the Liberals will look like the voice of reason and stability.

Way to go BCTF, divide the union, alienate the parents, and help the Liberals win another election. Don't these people have degrees?
